Hello, this is David Martin here and I’m going to talk a little about Patrick Redford’s The False Shuffle Project, why it is so awesome, what you get for your small investment of 10 dollars plus tax and why it is worth the attention of both card magicians and mentalist who aren’t against using playing cards in their presentations. On that note, why there are people who still debate the use of playing cards in mentalism when some of the greatest mentalists of all time, Dunniger and Annemann to name a few, where doing incredible shows with them prior to these critics even being born into this world…? It’s truly beyond me and sorry for throwing that pet peeve of mine out there! You dear reader, want to hear about this product and I hope I can give you an answer to the potential questions you have in mind through this review.

This download starts off incredibly strong with a incredibly detailed explanation of Dan Fishman’s Overhand False Shuffle. While this has appeared in other Patrick Redford material, such as the Square comic, in my opinion, the best explanation for the student that seeks to own this shuffle and do it extremely well can be found right here on this project.

As you, dear student, probably know through experience; if you were to give a member of your audience a pack of cards to shuffle they will most likely commence doing so in an overhand shuffle fashion. It’s either in that fashion or they might butt the cards together and mash them in and do an in the hands riffle shuffle. Of course, these are the three things they’d do on a whim and without guidance from the performer. Still, the overhand style shuffle is the most common and is recognized as a fair way of shuffling cards throughout many parts of the world.

With Dan’s incredible false shuffle combined with George’s teaching and touches that he’s added to this, you simply couldn’t find a more innocent looking way to do an overhand shuffle while at the same time having complete control over the cards in hand! I can definitely see some elements of Erdanse’s thinking regarding his Blind Overhand Shuffle technique in here with some very amazing touches mixed in. In case the reader is unaware, a Blind Overhand Shuffle is a overhand shuffle where the operator shuffles without looking at the cards! I would advise the student that gets this shuffle into their working toolbox to do this false shuffle while presenting their mysteries and without looking at the cards whilst it’s being done. If this can be accomplished by the student, there will be no question in anyone’s mind that this shuffle is not only legitimate but MORE THAN FAIR!!! This and the Redfish Shuffle are now my primary techniques for overhand shuffles and I am super happy about that fact. This detailed explanation alone I would gladly give up my 10 bucks for, but this is merely the beginning!

The second item is the RedFish Shuffle and this adds a couple of things to the previous shuffle. What these techniques will allow the student to do is perform a completely convincing overhand shuffle that looks just as fair as the previously shuffle but yet end up in the same exact place as they would if they were to say simply cut a few cards from bottom to top or vice-versa. However, because the cards appear to be getting hopelessly shuffled in the process in overhand shuffle fashion this is very deceptive and I’m more than positive that once the previous shuffle is obtained by the student that they will find this extension of it to have multiple applications in real world performance!

The third item is the PGR-Cut. This is a multiple packet false cut to the table that is truly convincing and random. Yet as he teaches you, it’s anything but.. This looks just as deceptive face up as it does face down also! In fact it’s so convincing that the order of the cards as a result of this multiple tabled cut are truly random that you might even fool yourself as you walk through this with George. I love this cut just as much as I do Jay Ose’s False Cut and Ben Blau’s OCD-Cut and I truly love those! This PGR-Cut, like the other two mentioned has done well to enhance the conditions I want to set forth in certain effects. The student of magic will do well to learn the simple yet fooling choreography involved for use in their card mysteries!

The fourth item on here is probably the most technically demanding one, but please don’t let that put you off. This is the F.A.L.S.E. Table Riffle Shuffle. It’s actually not that difficult to achieve but there are several things going on with it. I was comfortable with it myself in around a week of playing around with this. George has combined a plethora of techniques from similar looking shuffles to achieve this final result and what this looks like is a stylish and rather messy two handed shuffle of cards to the table. Besides the shuffle he also teaches some nice subtitles to allow the performing to spread these shuffled cards across the table prior to squaring them to allow people from the audience to push the mixed cards in together! This shuffle has a very open and fair look to it while also looking truly chaotic. I’ve enjoyed using this in various mysteries to give that air of “open, chaotic fairness”!

Last, but most certainly not least on here, the fifth item on here is called Safe Stack Decur-Tait Control. The conditions that this control takes place in a so strong. I wish Annemann himself could see this, as I know for a fact this would be right up his alley! Imagine this, a magician spreads the cards across the table for you to slide one out and look at it. Next, you toss your card face down on the spread of cards. The mystery worker then immediately starts grabbing chunks of cards from the other sides of the spread and starts tossing these cards around haphazardly to not bury the selection while at the same time mixing the cards! This randomess is continued for a few seconds and after that, the cards are squared. Would you believe that it’s possible under these conditions to have not only controlled that selection, but to have also learned its identity and also….maintained complete control over the rest of the deck! When I saw the demonstration I couldn’t and currently and most importantly neither can my receptive audience! This is very much worth learning and making your own! I predict you will not regret doing so.

So in conclusion, in a world filled with downloads that cost 20 bucks or more that teach you, quickly mind you, a trick that’s just “Okay” at best and “mediocre” at worst…It certainly is nice to see an extremely creative performer and thinker not only take the time to create a detailed project like this but also provide it to passionate students for such a small investment. It’s truly a breath of fresh air if you ask me! Oh, by the way, while I tried to be as descriptive as possible to a present or future student that reads this, I would be re-missed if I did not point out that everything I’ve described is around half the knowledge that you’ll find on here. You see, in addition to these core techniques you’ll most likely take away a lot more as you sit back when George and learn the history of these techniques and other tactics that he uses within these various shuffles and cuts and why you might consider using them as well. Some of this thinking extends far beyond these techniques and can be applied to other techniques or effects that you may already know!

For all the above reasons, that’s why I rate this product a 5/5 rating!

I want to preface this review by stating that I am in NO way a professional magician, but merely an individual that loves and values the art of trickery. I once met Patrick at a local Michigan magic shop and what he truly achieves with a regular deck of cards is nothing short of spectacular.

Months ago I knew I wanted to try my hand at stacked deck work and Patrick stressed at the time how it would be a good idea to have some false shuffles ‘under my belt’…Well I’m happy to say that Patrick’s instructions in this video are easy to follow, and even if he thought he was going a, “mile a minute” in terms of explanations, I for one REALLY appreciated that!

Going forward I am fully on board with supporting all of your efforts, Patrick! Thank you for making this! 5/5
