Hypnotic Pull Presentation
Patrick Redford’s Hypnotic Pull is an examinable multi-phase light and heavy chest with a pack of cards that’s easy to do. Using the power of imagination, the participant will discover that they can’t lift a pack of cards into the air after they imagine that it is an extremely heavy object. They’ll then find themselves unable to remove the cards from the box; despite having done so moments before. At the end of the performance everything may be examined. While this effect does not rely on suggestion or hypnosis of any kind, it certainly looks as if it does!Hypnotic Pull comes complete with the special gimmicks, a 48 page pocket size book of instructions, as well as access to a video performance and tutorial. Simply add our special gimmicks to your favorite brand of playing of cards and you’re ready to go. In addition, we teach a routine titled “Stop Smoking” that simulates the same effect with a pack of cigarettes making it impossible for a participant to remove his or her cigarettes from the box.

You get an intriguing premise: the spectator’s own imagination renders him unable to perform simple acts such as picking up a deck of cards. You also get an entertaining sequence of effects which, as well as being baffling to watch, have that neat ‘each method cancels out the other’ quality.
The quality of the instructional video is excellent, with everything explained clearly and in great depth. It’s good to see that Patrick gives due credit to all his sources. The effect relies on a couple of very simple gimmicks that anyone can make without any special equipment or know-how. Happily, neither of these gimmicks is in play by the end of the routine — you finish clean and with everything examinable. This adds considerably to the bewilderment.
‘Hypnotic Pull’ is clearly a very versatile routine, by which I mean you can graft on to it almost any presentational slant you want. Play it serious or for laughs; make it about hypnosis, willpower or PK; present it as an awesome display of your mind power or leave it as an intriguing experience for others to make of it what they will.
It’s typical Redford: brilliant, practical, baffling and ingenious beyond compare.
